Ol’ Colony Golf Course
Golf
The 18-hole “Ol’ Colony 1” course at the Ol’ Colony Golf Complex facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama features 6,494 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71.6 and it has a slope rating of 122 on Bermuda grass. Designed by Jerry Pate, the Ol’ Colony 1 golf course opened in 2000.
Named one of the “Top 5 Best New Public Courses in America” by Golf Digest (2001), Ol’ Colony Golf Complex certainly lives up to its reputation. This Jerry Pate designed course is considered one of the best public courses, not only in Alabama, but also in the nation.
The 18-hole course has rolling hills and is heavily wooded with tall pines and soaring oaks. It’s sure to test even the most advanced golfer with large bunkers, mature trees, and water hazards that will test every shot, including a 25-acre lake. Another 18-holes, already designed by Pate, will be a welcome addition in the coming years.
Ol’ Colony Golf Complex opened to much acclaim in December 2000 on 597 acres that was once a farm plantation for a mental institution named Boy’s Colony. The property, long abandoned by the institution, was tapped the perfect site for a course by the Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority. A premium driving range and its scenic 18-holes make this course a must play!
